Have you bought reusable cloth bags for your supermarket purchases?

If you have, and you use them, good for you ... it saves alot of plastic bags from going to landfills, and harming animals.

If you still use plastic bags, do you plan on using cloth bags soon?

  1. I want to get the bags but I the store I go to was out of them. I hope that the next time they will have them.

  2. YES!  I bought enough for all my grocery shopping and I love it. I have the baggers just put my stuff right back in my basket, then I bag my own stuff when I put everything in the trunk. Not only am I stopping the use of plastic bags, but I can also bag everything the way I keep it in my kitchen and put it nicely in my trunk. It actually saves me time, work, and best of all I'm doing a little to help our planet. I actually am so happy I made the transition, and those reusable bags come in handy for so many things!!!

  3. I bought them at publix supermarket and they are GREAT! The bags are surprisingly large, only cost me 99cents each, and are actually easier to carry groceries in. They have long handles that you can actually throw over your shoulder. I no longer have that plastic bag dent in my arms and hands from carrying heavy plastic bags in from the car. (I have also seen them for sale at Target and Walmart!)

If you have to use plastic bags, be sure to recycle them. Almost every grocery store has a recyling bin in the front of them. If yours doesn't, talk to the manager about getting one!

  4. Why buy reusable bags when you can simply use your backpack.  The only downside is that I have to check it in to a few stores and and security persons like to look inside.

  5. We just bought these bags made out of recycled cans and bottles from Wal-Mart.  We use them all the time!

  6. I have used many different kinds of reusable bags and I see more and more people doing it.  I am glad since the pollution it causes is ugly and dangerous to many species.  I have even run out of the plastic ones (which I used to keep to reuse for various purposes) - which I never thought would happen.

  7. I've been using my own homemade cloth bags for 25 years.  I don't particularly like my hands being unavailable so prefer to carry stuff in a large should bag but couldn't find anything large enough and durable enough to hold 2 full grocery bags (or more), yet be light enough to not add any more weight itself.  Plus could be washed when it got dirty, shed water a little if possible, and could be squashed up into a small ball and stuffed in my pocket when not needed.  So I started making my own (had to borrow my mom's sewing machine--hey, stitches may not be uniform or straight but it gets the job done and I didn't sew any fingers so I'm good to go).

  8. I have several canvas bags I've accumulated over the years.  Most of them were advertisements of some sort rather than purchases.

I saw a really cool link for using plastic bags to crochet a larger bag that would be sturdy enough to use for years.  I don't have the link, but it was in an answer here on this site.  It sounds like a good "winter" project for me.
