What advantage do golf shoes have over regular sneakers when walking the golf course? More comfortable than sneakers? Do the spikes really help?

  1. you definately should.  if you golf more than zero times a year then yes, you need golf shoes.  you need them to take a little grip on the turf so when your weight is transfered on your swing, you dont shift your shoulders and arms which will create bad spin on the ball.  some very comfy ones are out right now-even more so than running shoes or those awful skate shoes.  i would reccomend footjoy brand shoes.  the cleats are rubber and replacable, and the shoes have as many features as regular sneakers do.  i would seriously reccomend golf cleats if you want to shoot well.  most golf courses also require golf shoes as a dress code- and some are very classy and stylish- others are more casual.  pick the one that is best for you and your taste

  2. no get golfshoe

  3. Non-metal spikes have come a long way since they first came out. They do provide more traction on grass than regular sneakers. Helps your body to retain balance as you build up torque in your swing and then relese it.

If you've ever seen someone slip and fall on their face after taking a swing at the ball, well... good golf shoes are what prevents this.

  4. Since metal spikes were banned basically everywhere, golf shoes are almost worthless. I rarely change into my golf shoes anymore before I play.  I miss the old metal spikes!  As far as comfort, golf shoes have come a long way.

  5. Yes, for 2 reasons.

    1.  Even though metal spikes are no longer allowed, the rubber spikes will help provide more traction that standard athletic shoes.  A number of courses and clubs require them also - and if you don't have them when you arrive to these courses, some will require that you buy a pair from their pro shop, which will be outrageously expensive (as much as $40 per pair more than in retail stores).

    2.  There are some conditions where the ground is soft and your athletic shoes will leave a footprint on the putting surface, which will s***w up another players putting line as long as 4 hours later.  Rubber cleat marks on the putting surface are less damaging and will have less chance of changing the line of a putt.

  6. Find a good pair of casual walking shoes with a great pattern imprinted in the sole, not  too many overly flat areas with no serations so that the element of slipping doesn't become a factor. These are comfortable, give the proper grip on sod or in sand, and you don't have to replace those crappy, too many missing nibs  plastic things   four times a year  which are now called spikes.

  7. definitely get golf shoes for all the reasons listed above.  They have so many different styles now: some that are the "classic" saddle, some that look like running shoes, some that look like dress loafers (you could almost go straight to a suit & tie event with them on!) and some that look like they came out of a Star Trek episode.

A lot of companies say the really new and expensive golf shoes will add 10 yards to your drives, but I know a guy who wears the Nike sp-5's from two years ago, and he can hit his 3-wood 280 yards!  I guess if he buys the brand new TW SP-8's, what would that mean for his game?

That just tells me "get what you like".  Don't worry about what the companies try to sell you, get what feels good.... but do get a pair.
