Should I confront my parents?

Question

I have amazing parents, I love them, we respect each other, etc. I'm 17, and when I was looking in the cupboards to look for medicine, I found a silver tin with a lock combo. I smelled it, and it was weed. I has suspicions my dad smoked, but I wasn't sure.

It bothers me...I mean, it's in my kitchen cupboard! What should I do?

Leave it, or bring it up?

I would confront them about it. Maybe it's not theirs for some reason. You don't want that in your house, if your parents happen to get caught with it they would get arrested and could go to jail. Plus I think if it isn't theirs they would want to know it is in their house. If it is theirs, they shouldn't have it in the kitchen cupboard, they should at least try to hide it somewhat. Just assure them it's not yours.

Don't look at it as a "confrontation"  Just ask a simple question to satisfy your curiosity.  Really, parents or not, it's none of your frigging business what they do for relaxation.

It is their business.It doesn't affect your relationship and at least it's not dope!

And just on another note, there are other things that smell like weed..not just weed itself.

If you had a happy family life before that, then weed is just something your dad does to relax. Obviously he's not like a crakhead. I think you should leave it cuz its gonna hurt him to think he's a bad influence on you.

You should confront your parents most parents want you to be honest with them so they can  be honest with you. they incourage you not to do drugs why is it okay for them.

i would confront them especially if you guys are as close as you say imean your old enough to understand and comprehend and they shouldnt have to hide the fact that they smoke pot from you. h**l i would be excited if my parents smoked lol then i would of had something in common with them when i was a teen

My parents smoked when I was your age.

I found it in there room once. If you are comfortable bringing it up to them I think it would be nice to have a talk with them.

Ask them whatever you are curious/concerned about. Hopefully they will be honest with you and this will strengthen your relationship with your parents.

You are almost a legal adult. They should be able to treat you like one.

I would ask them about it because its better to do it now before it is too late. Don't put whatever they say against them. Tell them that the thought of it makes you upset and worries you and you love them and don't want anything to happen to them. Be completely honest with them you will feel much better if you do instead of not saying anything.

This is tough. You don't want to confront your dad and make him angry by asking about the weed. But, its important. I would ask what the tin was doing in the medicine cabinet and why there was a lock on it ( obviously someone didn't want anyone looking inside that easily). Then, if your dad does admit to smoking it, tell your dad his health is important to him and you and your mom and smoking weed will only hurt everyone. Good luck!

It's not in your kitchen cupboard.  It's in your parent's kitchen cupboard.

By all means tell them you found it and that it bothers you.
