Question:

Should I get my navel pierced?

I'm 14 and I've thought about it for a while. I've asked my mom and she says in her opinion it looks tacky but also that in the end its my decision. I've researched the procedure and the after care. I figure it's not like a tattoo, it's just a hole, so if someday I decide I don't like it I can just take out the jewelry and it will be pretty much unnoticeable. I can always put a shirt over it.

For people who have navel piercings: does it hurt? how much, compared to ear piercing? compared to a doctor's shot?

What do you think?

also, please don't just say "you're too young", if you think there's a good reason, back it up.

thank you!

  1. i had mine done at 12 :S. and when the piercin person put the clamp on i said i don't want it doing any more, and he replied 'i hope you are kidding because i have already done it' so it didn't hurt me haha. im 16 now and the only time people see mine is if they ask or i am on holiday or if i am getting changed or something. it doesn't hurt after unless you catch it or touch it, and even then it is only sore. go for it, it is not painfull at all/ i think that having you ears pierced is worse. i am thinkin about having my tongue pierced atm. too scare though but i really want it doing

  2. It's really all personal preference. My girlfriend has it, when she needs to look professonial she wears something that covers it up. She compared it to a little more painful then getting a shot, but only for a second.

  3. stfu and listen to your mom.

  4. i think u should get it if u really want too they are nice...

i had mine done two years ago, but it fell out,it doesn't hurt at all its like a quick pinch

prices vary depending on where u go i paid $50 for mine..after care is annoying tho u really have to keep up with it, and there s still always that chance of it fallin out this has happened to me and a lot of people i know the skin around it just gets real thin and it falls out i had mine for a year before it fell out...but when i had it i loved it if u want one i would say give it a try.

  5. hi..i havent got 1 but i have my best pal who has done it and it doesnt hurt that much wen a doctor does it...and ofcourse it cuteee...but do u wear short tops to show off with ur navel piercing????

    ;-)))

  6. frstly its no1z business if u want to get it peirced. its ur body. i mean i didnt wanna say the young thing..but as long as ur not being pressured into doing it coz ppl u kno are doing it or wateva. otherwise if u jus wanna do it for urself nd u think its kewl its orite. i got mine pierced :) i reckon it looks hot..nd some guys think so 2..it hurts for like 2 seconds when ur gettin it done.nd maybe abit after if u put pressure on it..nd its supposed to get a lil bit infected..part ov the healing process loll. after its healed it dusn hurt at all ..nd its fun to buy different ones :)

  7. I had mine pierced at age 15. It hurts but not that much, but hurt more than an ear piercing. But don't be scared, just take care care of it well, or it might get infected.

  8. no dont! I know this may sound silly to you, but you'll regret it when your older! When your sixty.. you'll have a hole.. and it is very tacky. no offence to those who hav already. Dont... be normal.. human skin was only meant to be pierced at the ear lobes.

  9. no, don't try to be cool like that.

  10. haha that reminds me of a joke this guy told me....

he asked me why do girls pierce their belly buttons....

so they have a place to hang the air freshener

haha that would be convincing enough for me.

the money is more than an ear piercing... you can get one free at a clair's store.

  11. I have my navel pierced and to me it does not look tacky at all. However everyone has there own opinions.

When i had mines done it did not hurt. It just felt as though there was a slight pushing feeling on my belly button. depending on what the place uses, they will numb the area with either a spray or wipe. Depends on your pain thresh hold.

It cost me £35 over here but I'm not sure now much it would cost where you are.

You are right, you can take it out if you dont like it. The hole actually heals really quick if you leave the bar out, as i have experienced Ha ha.

The only thing that i would warn you about is to make sure that the place you have it done has a good reputation for piercings. Check with friends who have had this done and where they got it done. Lucky for me i got it done somewhere good but Ive heard of other places where people have gone and had really bad infections because it has not been done right.

  12. my friend got hers pireced on her 16th bday

my other friend got hers done on her 18th

and both says it hurts like a mother.

  13. Try it.

  14. My girlfriend got her naval pierced a few years ago and she said it hardly hurt because the lady was talking to her and keeping her mind on something other than the piercing. She said if anything it was like getting your ears pierced. With your age don't flaunt other than in your bathing suit don't want to give the boys the wrong idea!!!

Your right though if you don't like it, just take it out and it'll grow shut in no-time. And in my opinion your not too young, there are girls younger than you having little ones, so a naval piercing isn't going to be too outta control for your age group.

  15. If you want to get it done then thats fine. Im not sure if the hole will go away or not. But be sure to take good care of it. If you've researched it and are comfortable then you should be okay. I'm thinking about getting it done too, but im 19, so check to see how old you have to be. They may not do it even if you have your mom consent. They may think you are too young, so you may have to wait. But I see no problem with it if you really want it.

  16. go for it im 14 i have 7 piercing and my navel is my next piercing and my last!!!!

    good luck

  17. I really don't see the big deal. It's only a piercing! Like you say, you can take it out when you don't want it in. Loads of my friends have them. I've seen it without the jewelry and really, you can't tell that there is a hole there. I can only tell because I know.

If you want it done, get it done. That's the thing. I think they can look quite good actually, as long as you have the body for it. Go for it.

I don't have one, but I have friends with them.  I accompanied them for the piercing and they never said it hurt. They squinted a bit, but it's nothing major. What will hurt is the salt solution you put on it. It will sting for maybe 5-10 minutes then nothing.

I say if you want it, go for it! What harm can it do?

  18. My 10 year old daughter and I were just having a discussion about navel piercings, because her 15 yoa friend has one.  Firstly, I know several people who have gotten very serious infections from the piercing and secondly, what type of attention do you think you will be drawing to yourself?  It's great to be self-confident and proud of your body, but at 14, should you be sending the wrong cues to people? I agree with your mom that it is trashy and a little too fast for a 14 year old.

  19. Personally, I think they are gross...

But everyone likes something different right? :) Your body, so do what you want.

However, and this is not 'you are too young because you will regret it', maybe you want to wait? Because at 14 it will look a bit... You know what people will think- especially adults because they stereotype alot (not all of them, some).

One of my friends had it done, he had an infection later :l

He said that getting it done was a little bit painfull, but it didn't last very long. It hurt about the same as ears.

Good luck with whatever you choose to do! :)

  20. well i think its a great idea and ur not toyoung

  21. I have two lip piercings, a septum piercing and 00 gauges in my ear.. And I promise you, piercing your belly button won't be bad. Just pinch your belly button and hold it there for a couple of seconds.. That's what it will feel like.

Also, when your mom says it's "tacky" that would be a possible risk of your mom later saying "No, you can't get one"

  22. I personally think that they are cute. I never got mine done because I was afraid of the pain and the possibly puncturing the vein thing.

  23. No!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  24. I recong u should definently not get it pierced u can get an infecton and it can get real bad

  25. Sorry to tell you this BUT you are too young and can't believe your Mom would say " its your decision " . At 14 you are too young to make a decision like this . Why do you want a navel piercing anyway unless for the obvious reason for attention . Someone your age should not be walking around showing your midriff - that's tacky and sends a very wrong message. I would NEVER let my daughter get a piercing at your age - that's poor parenting IMO . Sorry !!!

  26. i have one and i got mine when i was18 and at the time i didnt realize it but they look trampy, people look at you different and when you start having babies, well you ll see. if i were you i wouldnt. if you were meant to have a hole there then God would have put it there when you were born.

  27. ummm

its ur body why u asking others!

do wut ever the h**l u want !

    seriously!

  28. I loved mine, though I never showed it off.  When I got pregnant, I had to take it out, and a good thing, it traveled up when I got big, and went normal again afterwards.  For a little hole, it left a big enough scar.  It hurt, but not much.  Just don't look when they do it.  Find somewhere clean with a good reputation.  You'll likely need your mom to come for her permission, and they may only do it if you're over 16.

  29. navel piercings are just cute decoration for when your wearing your swim suit or something with a mid-drift.

most young girls get them as opposed to ear piercings.

    (or they get both :D)

i dont see anything wrong with them at all.

i have pierced my own twice and it doesnt hurt at all.

(of course i have a very high pain tolerence)

its just like an ear piercing.

    goodluck, hope i helped.
