ok so long story short is Ive only worked 3 days as a dish washer and all 3 days I wanted to quit. Today I stayed 1 hour overtime, I was the only one working, im only 17 and had hardly any training at all and I hurt my back and my ankle. Im supposed to work tomorrow and its supposed to be really busy on sundays, but my back and ankle hurts and I REALLY REALLY want to quit, anyways school is starting in like 2 weeks. Should I call tomorrow and say I cant make it in and I want to quit or go work tomorrow and tell them I quit? And do I really need to give them a letter? I dont see the point

  1. It's okay to quit. Lousy job. If it was a better job  I would be more inclined to say stay.

  2. s***w around with them first. Demand a $1/hour raise and if you get it, never come back in to work. If they say no, demand a $2/hour raise.

  3. Call them today and tell them that you are too hurt to com tomorrow so that they can arrange for some one. Sleep over the idea of quitting.Decide after tomorrow so that you wont end up feeling sorry.

  4. You should go to work, and when you finally turn up, be pulled aside and be told you're no longer welcome as a contributing member of what once was a positive environment. People talk behind your back WAY too much, maybe you should move back to the orphanage?

  5. if you want to quit then quit but there isnt really any training on how to be a dsh washer...as for the letter the reason you give notice is so that when you go to get another job they know you arent just gonna bale on them one day and not show up...it shows responsibility...and it doesnt have to be a 2 week notice or anything that long just give notice that your gonna quit so that they can start to find someone else to do the job when your gone

  6. stay home and eat....u only live once

  7. Most likely you are going to have to give your employer two weeks notice before you quit. You should definitely go into work tomorrow and tell them in person that you are going to quit, not over the phone. Is this job really that horrible that you want to quit? Maybe you should stick it out for at least a month. That way you can get a good reference for your next job.

  8. try my job 12 hours monday going to  friday in a patrol car even sucks on hot days

  9. Many managers would consider it rude if someone quit suddenly without any warning.  Usually it's proper etiquette to give a manager two weeks notice so that they have enough time to find a replacement.  (Are you the only dish washer?  Who's going to wash dishes if you don't show up?  Put yourself in the shoes of the manager.)

Also, if you weren't staying up so late on Yahoo Answers, maybe you'd get better sleep and would handle work better.  :)

  10. you should call today to say that you want to quit. if you come there tomorrow, you'll just waste transportation fee, if you call tomorrow then they don't know you're quiting and they don't have someone to go replace you. just tell 'em that you hurt your back and your ankles from doing overtime and that you're the only one working with the dishes and that you're sorry but you just have to go. i don't think that you have to give 'em a letter, too. you've only worked 3 days and it's not permanent, so there.

  11. if you don't work out the summer don't expect to use them as a reference. employers don't hire unreliable people.

  13. It is natural to have aches and pains from any type of new work. You will get over it after a week or so. I do not think it is a good idea to just call in sick or to phone in and quit. You will be 'letting the side down'. The employer gave you the job in good faith and you should not just give up at the slightest bit of inconvenience to yourself. You should work for the full time you agreed to in the first place. Before leaving that job you should ask for a reference so that when you apply for another job one day you have some supporting evidence of work there.

  14. No. If I were you I would talk to your employer about the problems you are having and if there is no resolution, put in your 2 weeks. Quitting without giving warning makes you look irresponsible. You may want to use this place as a reference in the future.

  15. How many people really like to work? It's just a part of life.Having to have hired many teenagers in my job description I have found that many of them will find any excuse not to have to work. They tend to want to start at the top.In fact most act as though the world "owes" them. Now, you may very well not be one of those people but I have found that most young people want everything handed to them.Just remember this.Your first, second or even your third job is just a stepping stone and will mold you for future employment.Responsibility started when you accepted this job. Therefore you need to follow through and give your employer ample time so that they can find a replacement for your position. No matter how menial you may feel this job is being responsible is important and shows that you can be mature.Treat your employer the way you would expect to be treated if the tables were reversed. Now, if you are truly hurt and not using this as an excuse to quit then by all means tell your employer your situation but feeling  and explain to him you feel there should be more help available but if you are only using this as excuse to quit then you have a lot of growing up to do because you are obviously not ready for responsibility. It sounds like you wanted a job to earn some extra money and then decided once you started that this wasn't the job for you.If this is the case then you need to be honest with your employer and stop making excuses to quit.Your employer will respect you for being honest.I'm sure there are a lot of other kid's out there who would love the opportunity to earn a little extra money and are not afraid of hard work.Sorry but if you are looking for someone to encourage you to quit you won't find it here.

  16. You're just 17. Your education is the most important thing for you right now. I would suggest that you tell your employer that you are unhappy with the lack of training you received and ask them if there are any techniques that they can share with you to make your job easier.

If overtime is the problem, then ask them if you can be exempt from working overtime. Make sure that you get a break every now and then.

I don't think that you should quit just yet. Give the job a few weeks before you make up your mind. Also, if school is most-important to you, then I suggest that you tell your employer of your intentions of quiting when school starts. Giving a notice is professional and does not leave your employer with a bad taste in their mouth from having hired you. It may also let you use them as a reference for your next job. Don't get yourself in the habit of quiting easily. It will be hard to break.

In my experience, I have found that you can make the work day fun by treating it like a game. In your case, your goal is to get those dishes as clean as possible in an efficient way. Pretend it's the ultimate restaurant 3-D simulation and YOU play a key role in keeping the customers happy. Now doesn't that sound cool?

    Good luck!

  17. phone them up tell them you ant going in and if they ask why just say I QUIT>   or you can go in to work say hi to everyone then say bye and leave go home and then phone them and tell them you quit

  18. If you want to quit, go to the manager/boss and tell him/her that you're quitting.

If you don't want to go to work and you have their contact phone/e-mail

give them a call/e-mail telling them that you're quitting with the reasons.

put your self in the manager place and see how it would be if they count on someone to do the work and he didn't show up.

    good luck in your work/school.

  19. find another job first. Life is tough, but its tougher w/out a job!

Ive worked 16hrs with only 2 hrs of sleep and was still hungover when I arrived. I dont recommend trying this, but as far as the ankle thing, just call off and go to a hospital, takes 45 min or so and explain to the Dr. that youll need a work excuse. Take two days off in a row so it will count as one point. And also it'll be excused. Most resteraunts are cool as long as you have a Dr's excuse.

Youll want cash to do things on the weekends, so stay strong..and besides..youll eventually get used to it and itll be second nature to go to work and earn money like its nothing.

45 minutes of your time and you get 2 days off free an clear and you get to rest up and still have money rollin in.

  20. If you hurt your back and ankle by an accident and other employees saw it, then you have a potential case for legal action. If you're just hurting from the normal requirements of the job, then maybe you're just a bit softer than average and need to "harden out" as you do the job. Go to work tomorrow; they're depending on you. Dependability builds a good resume. If the hurting becomes more excruciating, tell them you're quitting and make sure you make arrangements to get your time. Restaurant owners are often dishonest and succeed in withholding pay from employees who quit.

Let me clear this up; I'm not suggesting you work if you're hurting from an injury, especially if it's an on- the- job injury. For that you'll have to get compensation.

  21. thats how it is in the real world kid.  get used to it!  if you cant work as a dishwasher how the h**l will you survive or work in another job?

i suggest you stay working with them.  you just worked there less than a week your body not used to it yet.   give it another week of work i promise you'll feel better.  DONT QUIT!!

  22. Call in and quit, You dont want to risk injuring yourself.

  23. darling, i had a job when i was 16 and i started volleyball practice. i didnt like my job either and they said they would work with me thru volleyball. first day i had practice, they told me i had to come in. for like 2 seconds i felt bad, then i said, oh well, have a nice life. and i never went back. it did not affect me any with my career after school. so dont worry about it. just dont go back. @#$# em. i hate work anyway. usually they have the young ones do the c**p jobs anyway. save you back and ankle. and relax for two weeks.

  24. you wuss, I'm a girl and ive been doing dish washing since I was 14, it sounds like you can't be asked, so quit you will any way.
