Question:

Should I stop wearing my retainer?

I wore braces for 2 years during my high school year because i have an underbite.

The thing is I HATE my shape of teeth after I took my braces off. The orthodontist tried to make my underbite go away, but he made my upper teeth TOO overbite.

My retainers broke 2 months ago, so I stopped wearing them. Now, I'm thinking of stop wearing them altogether. If I hate my shape of teeth after my braces so much, what is the point of buying new retainers? Honestly, I like my old shape of teeth better. My underbite wasn't so bad. I have no clue why my mom wanted me to have braces. My friends said my underbite isn't so bad looking.

What do you think? Will I waste my braces money if I stop wearing retainers? Should I buy a new retainer?

  1. If you don't wear your retainers like your dentist tells you too, your teeth are gonna end up crooked looking again.

    Well, that's what I heard.

  2. wear you retainer because not wearing it would be SUCH a waste of money, you probablly just arnt used to your teeth

  3. You should keep wearing your retainer, as your bite and teeth could move for the worse... I am suprised that your underbite went to a drastic overbite, but if I were you I would wear them at night.  it won't hurt and it will keep the teeth in check wher ethey are now.

Are you considering getting braces on for a second time?   Some underbites are usually fine and dont need to be fixed, but some people it causes a speech and chewing issue that must be fixed.

Your one of the lucky ones that did not need surgery...

  4. defo trust what ur orthodontist is saying! x

  5. unfortuanelty... yes. you should. the retainer should be replaces free of charge so you dont have to worry about that. i would atleast get it and wear it at night.

  6. Yes, i Thiink you should buy a retainer. it probably looks TOO overbite to you because you are used to having the underbite.

  7. If you stop wearing your retainer without your orthodontist's permission, your teeth will probaly end up crooked, whether or not you had crooked teeth in the first place or not. When you get braces, your teeth come out of the roots, kind of, so they'll easily move. Keep wearing your retainer.
