Question:

Should I take AP American History?

I'll be a junior in high school this upcoming year, and i signed up to take the course AP american history. Does anyone know if it is a demanding course, especially taking it as a junior? I don't want to say I'm really smart, but I'm not stupid. I took Honors World Cultures my sophomore year and did decent. I think one of the only reasons I signed up for the course is because I'm going to take a lot of AP classes during my senior year, so I would like to have a good idea what they entail. American history should interest me far more than world cultures did, but still. Am I making a mistake taking this course?? Could you provide me with some more information/tips to make it easier? Thanks :)

  1. If the teacher is good, then take it.  Otherwise, don't take it unless you really love history.  It is a lot of work (especially reading) and not fun stuff like math.

  2. It depends on how much you are willing to put into it and how good your teacher is.  US history has a lot of information, not hard stuff, but a lot.  If you want to pass the test you have to work hard.  Also, make sure you start studying for the test about a month before the test, not the day before.  I started to study a month before and then all my friends wanted help starting the day before, so I led a study group for them.

  3. You should take it. I mean if you do bad, you can always change classes, right? Taking any type of social studies classes, make sure to study from the book a lot because the teacher usually doesn't cover all the details and dates in class.
