I am a highschool senior and I am going to take a class at the local community college...I am going to be in AP Spanish at my highschool, and I wanted to take another foreign language at the community college. I can't decide between Greek or Italian. I am going to be traveling to Italy in November for about a week, but I don't want that to be the only reason why I'd learn Italian...and I think Greek would be interesting to learn too. In your opinion, what should I take?

  1. Well, i am taking Latin right now, and i like it, and we have also learned some greek.  However, i would of taken Italian if it were an option at my school, because the lang. is so interesting.  Greek might help you better understand english though, because it is a good base language.  You might pick up on Italian faster because it is similar to  spanish.

  2. Italian plus Spanish is a difficult combination.

Either you choose one or the other. They are somewhat similar, though there are delicate differences between the two and it´s really hard to speak both assuming that BOTH are you foreign languages.

So, I think take Greek if you like Greek, it is very interesting language and not many people can speak it as a foreign language. It´s also good for your overall education since (ancient) Greek morphemes are found in many other modern languages. It will also help you in your future studies and make you indeed very special!

  3. Italian. It would be much easier for you to learn it and more people speak it than Greek

  4. I would say you take Greek, since I've heard Italian is a bit difficult. But the choice  is totally up to you.

  5. italian and greek are both difficult,i'm italian and i know my language it's hard to learn, but also greek is't easy(i study old greek)...i think italian can be more useful, for example in the food, artistic and fashion areas...i don't support italian only because it's my language...in spite of that if u decise 4 the italian course and either u need some help or u'd like to practise i'm here=]

  6. Greek!

different alphabet, which can come in handy in later in life. Greece is also a great country to visit, and you'll get there someday for sure.

Italian comes from the same language family as Spanish, so you'll find many similarities.

so why not challenge yourself and learn something completely different?

  7. Take Italian. It's close to Spanish and it is a very lovely, soft language.

If you have no use for Greek, why learn it?

  8. Greek,

Italian isn't going to do much for you, Spanish is good, Greek will show you great cultures.

I'm learning French, Spanish and Welsh, But i'd to anything to take Greek.

  9. I would say Italian because there are more people speaking it than Greek. You could learn both as well. Greek does not have a Latin Alphabet. Good Luck

  10. I am a spanish speaker I like to take greek.. even italian is closed to spanish,, I took french and it's hard!
