Okay, so I’m working for a company full time and I recently found out that everyone in the company gets a bonus except for me. When I found this out I started looking for another job. I got offered a Temp position at a company that is very good; however it’s a Temp Position and I don’t know if I should take it…The thing is that if I was to get hired for permanent job at this other company it will be a good career move; however I’m worried that because it’s a temp position the assignment can be ended anytime…Can someone please help me…

  1. Rather than face the upheaval of leaving your present position and going to a job that is clearly only temp. Why do you not approach your present employer and ask why the situation of bonus for others, but not for you, exists?

I was once faced with a similar situation in that an equally qualified nurse was getting more per hour than I was. So, I approached my Boss and asked her outright. She squirmed a little and matched my counterparts pay.

If your boss starts to give you a load of guff about why they get bonuses and you don't, tell him you have another job lined up. You don't have to tell him it is only temp and if he doesn't back down, then you are best leaving anyhow, you are not appreciated.

  2. It depends - if you have three kids and are a single parent than you might reconsider leaving, but if you are somewhat flexible in your situation and in a field where you can get other work were that job to end, I would go for it as staying where you are might cause you to become stressed and unhappy.

A lot of companies hire people are temporary before full-time (like a trial period).

Second thought - you could talk to current company about the bonus situation and tell them you would like to be on the bonus program.  They might offer it up (but then again, will you still even want to work for them anymore knowing that you were forced to ask for equal pay?)
