I am soon getting a red eared slider, and obviously a RES needs a lot of water. RES owners, what do you do when you need to clean the water?, do you go out and get tons of water gallons? or do you use tap water and then use a clarifier to clean it? if so, what clarifier do you recommend? thanks!

  1. I think the term you are really looking for is "dechlorinator" and  aquatic turtles should have their water treated with one. This will remove the  chlorine and chloramines that are added to municipal water systems. I use a product called "Prime" with my turtles and fish.

  2. use clearafier and filter

  3. Who "clarifies" their water in the wild? Just get an ovesized aquarium filter and change the water when it gets to be too much for the filter to handle.

  4. For red ear sliders you do NOT need to use any CHEMICALS in their water as this may be very toxic to them.
