Should PCB back Mohammad Amir?
No one has shown more promise than Mohammad Amir in today’s cricket world. He has been a real super star for Pakistan in the last couple of months.
Amir made his debut in the T20 world cup against England at the Oval on 7th June 2009 with an impression straight away. He was one of the influential figures in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755’s triumph at that world cup. He bowled several crucial overs and the most important being the first over of the final, peppering Dilshan with the short stuff and ending the over by dismissing him, the highest run getter in the tournament, for a five ball duck. So far he has taken 51 test wickets in 14 test matches at 29 and 25 scalps in ODIs at 24.
Mohammad Amir has been a revelation on this tour of England where he gathered 30 wickets in 6 matches. He also played in two of the 6 test matches against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 where he took 11 wickets at 22. In the four test matches he played against England, he took 19 wickets at 18. He has also taken back to back 5 wicket hauls in the last two tests. This includes his career best of 6/84. In the process, he became the youngest bowler to take 5 wickets during an innings at Lord’s.
However, the 18 year old’s promise has been shadowed by the recent controversy. Still, former Pakistan captain Ramiz Raja and former Pakistan coach Jeff Lawson have come out in defense of him. Both have shown great empathy for Amir, and they believe that he should not be the one to blame as a whole; instead the people around him should be blamed more. Ramiz said, “It is a great pity that a youngster as young as Amir has been dragged into this, he was showing his promise to the world.”
Amir was born in a backward village of Gujjar http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Khan-c71319. He comes from a humble background and this new world of fame is just new for him. He is just too young to deal with all this. It might not be the right kind of dressing room where a youngster can develop his mind. If the company that Amir kept has dragged him in all this, then they should be held much more responsible for almost spoiling such a promising career as that of Amir’s.
Lawson said, “Amir should not be held responsible for all this, and if this is the case I would be very much disappointed that a talent like him has been dragged into this.” He added, “All these cricketers come from humble backgrounds, it might not be their fault but the conditions that have compelled them to do this.” He further stated, “I remember Amir as a 16 year old youngster, who came in the under-19s championship. One thing which I remember the most about him is his winsome smile, and it is still there. I am not defending the match fixing allegations but we should also consider the reasons other than this.”
It seems that administration has to do a lot with the match fixing scandal as http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ijaz-Butt-c64128 is widely believed to be an incompetent person. He doesn’t have the leadership capabilities and has done enough harm to the Pakistan cricket. The PCB’s patron in chief should take away the chairmanship from him. This might be the justice that Pakistani nation is looking for.
