Question:

Should a child have to know?

Does your Child Know?

Your fake smile never lies

nor does you daily ’graines.

Moody today, as you were

yesterday and yesterday’s day.

Another night your not there,

another morning too.

Charades you play, acts portray.

And excuses? You are a pro, indeed!

The glassy eyes, the stumble there

words that ramble, words that crumble.

A strange “perfume”, a constant sneeze

Twitching… pacing…spacing…

Your eyes not seeing but others are.

Forget innocence, grace and all the saints

a child knows… knows before the “rest.”

  1. It amazing how children pick up on the slightest

change Whether it be attitude or mood swing They seem to know when somethings not right It could bad or good they seem to know

  2. My kids know my smiles aren't fake.

    Neither are the daily headaches.

    Moody is never my mood.

Whether today or yesterday, no need to be rude.

  3. STANDING OVATION

Jesus man, are you compiling a chap book for Family Services. You're like the perfect counselor. It's amazing how you come up with these hard hitting, down-to-the-core-of-it-all poems yet retain a good sense of humor as your answers show.

Another well executed piece full of techniques.

  4. Yeah they pick up on it but they don't need to know the gritty details.

  5. You have captured the innocence of children and riddled it with the unwanted knowledge they glean by watching and listening.

Good use of "rest" as the denouement.  Knowing before the rest (of the people); before the rest (of sleep); before the rest (of a life they know will change).  Thumbs up!

    Very powerful and excellent work!

A bit of a line edit:

    Your fake smile never lies

nor does you daily ’graines.  <--- your  I think you might want to write out migraines rather than rely on your audience knowing that 'graines are migraines.

    Moody today, as you were

    yesterday and yesterday’s day.

Another night your not there,  <--- you're or you are

    another morning too.

  6. Never underestimate the intelligence of kids they know more than  the adults living with them give them credit for!  Amazing poem, well done, love the descriptiveness you have displayed! Cheers!!

  7. Yes they do know. I should know, for I have to two. And they feel what I feel, and it`s not fair to them, in my opinion, but that`s just how it is. I`m their mother so it`s like I am their own reflection.

It amazes me how my moods affect their`s.

  8. yeah they pick up on the change and get worried

  9. Another Neonman piece of admirable thinkings....and the intensity never lessens anywhere in the process. What I love more about this poem is your choice of words. It's amazing Neon. "Charades you play, acts portray"..."Twitching, pacing, spacing"...I have enough to read loud and applaud my ears.

  10. Children are very smart. They usually know more than you think. They probably don`t understand. If you can try to explain

before they come up with their own conclusions. Sometimes they go out and tell their friends and teachers. The next thing you know the authorities are knocking on your door because the story got all twisted around. Be honest with your kids, then they will be honest with you.

  11. Even the infant knows more than we give him credit for. Until the child's brain is clouded with the world's intellectual toxins, it knows and it sees the truth. Your poem is real and strong.

  12. Neon....have it your 'way......'graines it is.....you KNOW what I mean.

Children and cats/dogs. They all know. they read body language because they don't have a fully developed vocal language understanding yet.

    Another marvellous poem. My compliments.

  13. Little sensitive observers, Out of the mouth of babes, your

words are full of truth, As a young aunt of many, and etc. I

have seen much, Heart breaking stuff.

Very touching poem Neon, you are such a feeler of what is

    important.
