Should i buy a.......?

should i buy a .357 magnum revolver? im 15 but i have shot them as well as a .50 caliber desert eagle so i no i can handle the recoil but i was wondering on your opinion if i should get one for when i hunt coyotes for a last resort and to go shoot gophers with? i live in canada more specificaly southern alberta but it is ilegal to hunt with hand guns but they do not enforce this law. i have the money and am wondering what your opinions are, and what type i should buy.

if you really want to have it and have enough money to buy it then why not? just make it sure that you will not be caught by anyone when you used it....

I agree that the .357 Mag is a great gun, plus you can shoot .38  cartridges in it to save money. I'd probably go with the Ruger myself, but you should go to a range where they rent guns and try a couple of different ones to see which one fits you best. Just remember that that smaller the gun, the bigger the recoil.

Like Larry, I am concerned about the line of it being "illegal, but not enforced". If a policeman catches you, he may decide to enforce it right then, and you'll have no defense. It's kind of like speeding on the highway on your car. I've gotten several tickets, and I've never gotten out of it by saying that"everyone does it".

not sure really if the .357 a good small game gun large game like deer yes. try a .243 or .223 rifle on coyotes you going to need speed but nothing to rip up the hides.

YES it is the best choice. Buy a Smith & Wesson with a 4 or 6 inch barrel.* You can also shoot 38 caliber ammo in a 357 Magnum, so you get two (2*) handguns for the price of one.* Buy new or used.* A new revolver doesn't shoot any better than a good used one.* Get the 6 inch barrel.* You will be able to sight it better and it will be more comfortable to shoot.* Buy used and save $$$.*

I would save the money for your first car at this age.  You can buy the handgun later.

How do you get they don't enforce gun laws? It is a very, VERY bad idea to buy it. If you get caught with it, you will be charged three ways from sunday for it.

I also live in  Alberta & if you get caught with that hand gun in your vehicle, you'll be spending a lot of time down at the RCMP, BUT if your on private land i really don't see any problem.

The 357 is the closest thing to an all around gun there is and probably ever will be

With the possible exception of the under appreciated 41 mag

If your taste lean toward double action a 4 inch Smith 686 is my favorite

If you lean toward single action it is real hard to beat a 5.5 inch Ruger Black Hawk

.357 is a great round, awesome for protection. I's also a 2 fer ... you don't have to load down, you can shoot .38 special rounds in a .357 revolver, and .38 + P to get right in between .357 and .38 power so it's extremely versatile. A little expensive to be shooting gofers with though, even in a .38.

I'd opt for a Taurus, they are excellent quality and much less than a Smith and Wesson and better quality than Ruger and other budget names for a lot of shooting. Then you can afford a hot air rifle shooting a .22 pellet at 900fps for under $200, like a mendoza 600 or avenger, rws34, Beeman RS1, or even a Crossman Quest which is going for around $90 for plinking gofers and shoot dirt cheap for years, or a .22 pistol or rifle which is cheap to shoot, all for the price of a more expensive .357.
