Should i dorm or commute?

so i am going to be a sophomore at a different school...i transferred after my freshman year to a new school closer to home. for my first year i lived on campus in hopes of finding the "college experience." Well my college experience wasn't much of an experience since i do not like to party or drink. Not that I have transferred and i'm closer to home, I was wondering if i should just live at home instead of dorming. I am very close to my family and living at home will allow that closeness to remain. On the other hand, i am beginning a new school, and I only know one person, so i am nervous that I will not make any friends. I am not the typical "college girl" but a part of me craves the "college experience" even though I do not participate in that lifestyle. Should i dorm or live at home? Also, I only have classes on Monday, wednesday, and friday to make commuting easier. Over the summer I also lost a lot of weight and hit my goal, so i am worried that by dorming I will gain the weight back through eating cafeteria food. Please help! Dorm or commute!!

  1. I'd stay at home... it's cheaper for you and your parents, it will help with your weight until you've had enough time to feel confident in your ability to keep it off.

As for college experience, I wouldn't worry about that if you've already tried it. I usually suggest people to spend at least one year on campus but if it's not for you, I doubt the new school will be that much different unless it is just a different kind of school.

I think the college "experience" is a myth like the "perfect" family, etc. People are different and what's fun for one isn't for the other. But do get involved if you can at the new school so you can meet people. Join clubs, go to games and rallys, concerts, etc.

  2. Well, you seemed like you didn't like living in the Dorm at your old school, but you could like it at your new one. It never hurts to try, but if you feel more comfortable at home then that is great. I don't like to drink and party either (and despite what some people think, i am not a prude, geek or boring) so I got involved in student government and clubs and also got a job on campus and I made lots of great friends. Good luck!

  3. WWJD?

You obviously have no interest in college, why not just go off and find a job.  Make sure not to do itover cocktails or at a party.

Sorry, you are just not ready to grow up.  Go back to school when you are done being a little prude.

  4. i would suggest looking at apartments near the school.  a lot cheaper than a dorm and can be just as much fun.

  5. Commute!  Your family life seems wonderful, and you will still be able to make friends in the classroom!  With the price of room and board i think it'll be worth the drive.

  6. Dorm-it's easier to meet people and feel apart of the campus. Skip all the bread and potatoes and you shouldn't have problems gaining weight. This was my strategy and it worked!

    Best of Luck!
