Shure VS Sennheiser?

Hey, looking into a microphone.

The Shure sm58 and Sennheiser e835 seem comparable.

Has anyone used BOTH microphones before? I would like to know the differences based on personal experience.

I've used the sm58's numerous times, and yes Shure is a known brand. How do the two mics differ. Please, no reviews off musiciansfriend or samash. Just experience.

  1. shure is more widely used in broadcast applications, and sennheiser for music recording and stage. i always prefer using a known mic, and never had a problem with the sm58.

The sm58 is cardiod, and the vocal tone does not vary even if held at different angles or moved close up. it is a good mic to let the talent handle.  the sennheiser is supercardiod which can give off-axis vocals an unflattering coloration. it is best used on stands that are removed by some distance from the performer and take advantage of its excellent rejection of crowd noise.

  2. I'll go for Sennheiser.
