  1. by the sounds of it its fin rot, the the fins are not falling out the fin rot is just rotting them away  so i would recommend using a general tonic that should hopefully clear it up.

    hope this helps

  2. ich, try bumpin up the temp and adding some salt... NOT TO MUCH

  3. Here is a picture of a betta with fin-rot:

does your Betta look like that or does it look like this:

You could very well have a tail biter which is more common than most people think.

I have a beautiful half moon betta that is a stress biter, which is the hardest to treat. Some betta bite our of boredom and others out of stress

  4. Also could be one of your other fish "Fin Nipping". Some species of fish do this especially too Guppy`s as well.

  5. It sounds like fin rot, which is a bacterial infection. Do a water change to ensure he has clean water, and treat with a medication for fin rot. I personally treat this with Maracyn or Melafix (all available at most pet stores). Drs Foster & Smith has a great medication/treatment guide on their website.

Another possibility could be that he is stressed and eating his own fins (it happens). If treating for fin rot doesn't help, consider environmental issues that could be upsetting him. Can he see other bettas? Dirty water? Dramatic increases in temperature? Cats digging in his tank?
