I was diagnosed with a UTI, and took antibiotics (septra) for 10 days. I finished the medication 4 days ago, but my vaginal area seems irritated still. could it just be side affects from the antibiotics or what?

  1. I think I had the exact same problem.. I had a UTI and I took Levaquin, 1 a day for 5 days. I wasn't in pain anymore, but the vaginal area did seem irrititated/uncomfortable. I thought the same as you, "Maybe it's a side effect and it'll go away.." I waited months and nothing really changed.

I went to my doctor and he did a pap-smear (d**n doctor never told me the results though, so i dont know what it was.) He also prescribed me Flagyl to get rid of the feeling. The Flagyl made it go away fine. Even though I didn't have much discharge, the doctor told me there was thick yellow discharge up in my v****a which was causing that feeling of irritation. The Flagyl is supposed to make that go away.

I did some research, I think it may be Bacterial Vaginosis. It's not a STD, in fact, i've read that people don't really know how woman get it. Having a UTI infection though, puts your body at risk for developing more infections like BV. Until I contact my doctor to find out what I had, which i really don't feel a need to unless it comes back, I'm just sticking with that even though I'm no expert and may be wrong..

by the way, if you look into Flagyl, make sure to have an anti-fungal medication prescribed for you too. One side effect of Flagyl is yeast infections (Either in your mouth or v****a) so watch for that too.

Good luck! feeling iffy about down-there is not a good feeling at all.
