  1. Lowry Art Gallery at Salford Quays is worth visiting.  Opposite is a small outlet centre.

  2. In the city centre, I would visit the main shopping centres, then some of the more unique ones, like Selfridges, Affleck's palace (down Oldham street- it's an 'alternative' centre), and then the shops down King street.

I would also go and see the town hall, castlefield (where the docks are), canal street (the g*y village- but very nice) and the museum of science and industry (they have the bodyworld exhibition on at the moment- it ends in a few weeks).

Also, they have an annual free outdoor jazz festival in castlefield, so depending on when you're visiting, I'd see that. You can sit on the stone stairs by the canal and feel very Romanesque.

There are also a fair few museums and art galleries that are free- for example Manchester Museum near the uni, the Whitworth opposite the hospital and the art gallery near central library (but I forget its name). There's also the Cornerhouse, which is an independent gallery of contempory art. That's quite cool sometimes.

For more educational information, visit either the Lowry (in Salford Quays) or URBIS (the gallery of Manchester)

There's the other ones further out of the city- for example the Trafford Centre, Manchester United ground and Manchester City Stadium

  3. A lot!

Rusholme and the curry mile, Old Trafford for Manchester United, Trafford Centre, Salford, the War Museum, Urbis, Arndale (I am young so that's cool to me), the Triangle, the gigantic "Manchester Eye" (that's what I call it, but it's the big wheel where you can have a view of the whole place), Chinatown with its good food, and so much more. Lucky you!

    Cheers!

  4. For shopping, try The Triangle [near to your concert venue] and the re-vamped Arndale Centre. For seriously upmarket stuff, go to King St and Deansgate. The Trafford Centre is further out of town, but is truly worth a visit, as is The Lowry Outlet. Now we got the shoppin sorted, here are the sights; Urbis is a stunning museum of urban life, close to the concert arena. The Printworks, a totally unique place is opposite Urbis, then up the street you've got the funky Northern  Quarter with its boho atmosphere. Have a drink in one of the fab bars, or visit the little galleries; some compare it to greenwch village in New York! If it's more culture you want, head to  Salford Quays for the wonderful Lowry Centre and War Museum

  5. granada studios has now closed down so i wouldnt really advise going there!! it really depends what you are into..we have the trafford centre a HUGE shopping centre with around 200 shops, plenty of food outlets,a cinema.arcades, bars and restaurants everything you could need under one roof really! theres also the war museum if youre into that??? manchester united do a gr8 tour of the ground for really cheap you get to go in the dressing room on the pitch etc (not so good if you dont support them) manchester city centre tends to be jam packed all the time people scurrying around frantic, youre best bet is looking online at a city guide as this will tell you exactly what there is and where so you can plan exactly where you want to go and how to get to each of these places easily..the good thing with manchester you can get virtually anywhere from it either by car, plane, metrolink, train or even walking so your opportunities are endless!!

hope you enjoy the trip but dont forget an umbrella!!!

  6. Canal Street

  7. Depends on what you're into, so here are a few...

Shopping: King Street, Selfridges and Harvey Nics for designer (think Armani and Vivian Westwood); Shudehill/Northern Quarter and Afflecks for indie and funky, Triangle for upmarket high street (Jigaw, Karen Millen, Calvin Klein etc)

Sport: Manchester United's ground Old Trafford

Nightlife: Funky and trendy - go to the Northern Quarter (Thomas Street etc for laid back cocktail bars, chilled pubs); Oxford Road for studenty pubs; Hilton Cloud bar for superstylish - get there early though and be prepared to queue!, Deansgate Locks for townie/dance music dressed up parties, Castlefield for a quiet drink.

Culture: Manchester Art Gallery (not very big but very nice and very central), The Lowry (over in Salford for a large collection of Lowry paintings); for great architecture visit Manchester Central Library, Manchester Town Hall and John Rylands Library.

For food: Chinatown is amazing - massive and with some fantastic restaurants (my faves are Red Chilli, Little Yang Sing and Pacific); for good pub grub try the English Lounge in Shudehill; for trendy barfood Living Room in Deansgate (where the Beckhams' hang out when they're in town); top quality Mexican fast food - Barburito in Picadilly (and you can get a bottle of Corona with your burritos!); For Italian Croma and Picolinos are great (favourites with Man United players - but pizza costs less than £7!)

There is so much to mention and so little space! Have a look at http://www.visitmanchester.com/index.asp...

If I can get my brain working I'll add some more.

    Have a great time!
