http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 FC have confirmed that midfielder Toni Silva has left Anfield to join the Championship outfit Barnsley.
The Portuguese International arrived at the Merseyside club in 2009 from Benfica, and represented the Reds at the Under 18 level for almost three years. However, during his stay at Liverpool, he failed to make a single professional appearance for the club,
and was consequently sent out on loan to Northampton Town in February, 2012.
In total, he has made 15 club appearances and scored just one goal.
Following the completion of his deal with the Reds, the midfielder was officially signed by Barnsley on Monday as a free agent.
A statement issued by Liverpool’s official website read, “Liverpool can today confirm Toni Silva has completed a transfer to Barnsley, subject to confirmation from the relevant footballing bodies. Everyone at LFC would like to wish Toni all the very best
for the future.”
Despite failing to make an impression at Merseyside, Silva possesses the skill and ability to become an instant success at Oakwell Stadium. Even though the player prefers to play in his customary midfielder position, he also possesses the craft of a winger
and can link up with the attackers upfront.
The Barnsley manager, Keith Hill revealed that he had seen Silva’s game a few times before making a move for him, and was delighted upon having him by his side ahead of their next campaign.
However, he admitted that the 18-year old was still ‘raw’, and will only improve with the passage of time.
“He's a very talented player, but he's still raw. We've watched him a few times and we've really been impressed with what we've seen. He went on loan to Northampton last season, which was a good experience for him. I spoke to Aidy Boothroyd about him and
he agrees that he's an exciting prospect.”
The Tykes boss also warned his team not to get carried away by the admission of the former Liverpool player in the squad. He pointed out that the juvenile player will require time to settle at his new home, and called upon the fans to show patience with
him during his preliminary days.
