Sim cards in costa rica?

i bought a used cell phone in thailand was able to use it in thai and vn w/appropriate sim card will it work for me when i go to costa rica

Actually, the problem will not be your cell company, it will be the Cell operator in Costa Rica. I also have a "free" phone that will take multiple sim cards, so when I go to another country I buy a sim card and a a prepaid minutes card and work perfectly. However, in  Costa Rica the system is still government operated and the wait list for a cellphone is about 1 year. As you can understand, getting a sim card was out of the question. This was in June 2006, but I assume it hasn't changed much since then.
