  1. i think this is how you do it

    you first multiply the to exponents like so

    (9x^-4)^-1=9x^4

    and thats all the farther you can simplify it

    so yes, leave no negative


  2. The outside -1 makes it

    1 / 9x^-4

    And the inside -4 makes it

    1 / 9*(1/x^4) which makes

    x^4 / 9

    All positive!

    And BTW, a good check for this is to let x=2 and punch that into the original equation and then the solution. You'll get exactly the same answer.
