Why does a teacher have a student sit at a table close by his desk like put the student their as their assigned seat

  1. So s/he can watch him/her more closely and see if they are paying attention or doing their work.


  2. To keep a close eye on that student either because he or she is a behavorial problem or needs extra help.

  3. Probably because the student has a hard time being attentive and the closer the student is to the teacher, the easier it is to keep him on task.

  4. the parent(s) could've requested for their child to sit next to the teacher's desk so they could get more concentration and not goof off during class or school hours. good question btw

  5. The student probably has a hard time staying on task.  Being close to the teacher gives he/she less options to disturb the rest of the class.

  6. This usually happens as a result of the child's behavior.  It can be something as simple as talking, or as extreme as fighting with others.  I often switch this spot out with a few different students over the year...some are because of behavior, and other decisions are made because some of my students work best when they are not distracted.
