Question:

Six year old olympic themed party?

my son is going to be six and we are going to have an olympic themed party. i got the idea from the internet, it's not my own. =)

aside from water balloon shot put, shoe box hurdles, frisbee discus, and a running race, cartwheel contest...what other ideas do you have for games? we'll be handing out "medals" for prizes and of course there will be a pinata. think that's enough? or too much?

the website says to serve chinese food, but it's hot as h**l and it's going to be at a park so we figure hamburgers and hot dogs is good enough. fortune cookies will be served too. what kind of cake should i make? something olympic-y. i want to make it olympic (around the world) themed as possible. all your help and ideas are welcomed.

thanks.

=D

here's the website i got the idea from.

  1. Cool!!  Maybe you should have German Chocolate Cake if your son likes chocolate.  And the name of the cake is appropriate for an around the world theme!  Then decorate it so it looks like a soccer ball or a basketball.  You should also paint the kids faces so their face look like flags from different countries.  That would be really cute.  Some other games could be long jump (jumping into a sandbox) or javilin (Throwing a wiffle ball bat or a wrapping paper tube.  Be really creative!!  Have a fun time!  = ]

  2. you could buy or print out flags from around the world and hang those up instead of streamers. and the cake could be shaped like the olympics logo... make cupcakes instead of a regular cake group the cupcakes up like the olympic circles and ice (cake icing) them together and it will look like it's one piece. or you could have three different cakes a gold a silver and a bronze you'll just have to look around for the metallic icing colors... how fun

  3. I was going to be a wise guy and point out that you left out the javelin toss, but I see someone already suggested a kid-safe way to have that event.

Take care to arrange things so the 6 year olds spend most of their time doing stuff and NOT waiting to do stuff.    Patience isn't abundant in most 6 year olds.

You don't have to really stick all that close to the Olympic events.   (Is there really an Olympic Pinata event?).   An egg toss (or a water balloon toss if you have low tolerance for eggy messes) could work with a couple of lines of 6 year olds.  My expectation is the lines won't get far apart, but the fun isn't in successfully making the long toss.   The fun is in seeing who gets splattered.

Flash lights for a "torch" relay race could work.

A hand cranked ice cream freezer powered by enough 6 year olds taking turns can be a good thing to have in the park on a hot day.   If the recipe calls for raw eggs, use pasturized eggs to be on the safe side.   Be sure to have enough ice and enough rock salt to see the job through.

  4. i think it'll be fun!

If thats what he wants for his sixth B-day, and you have planned, you should do it.

  5. Do ice cream cake

have team cames like soccer, base ball or football

you can get much information in this website, If you will check anyone blue link in website.

  7. go easy cuz the kids will have fun regardless of games & food.  save your money and energy.  cake, candles, and a camera!!
