Ive been skating for 4 months and ive only started learning stuff for my Skate Uk Grade 5. I'm 13 if that helps. Would it be possible to either

1) Have my Skate UK Grade 7 by Christmas

2) Have my Skate UK Grade 10 and starting passports by March?

3) Have my Bronze Passport by June next year?

Are any of these possibly or am I being overly ambitious?

Thanks so much!

  1. 1) Yes, I think you'll be able to get that far.

    2) No, I think by next March you will be in UK Grade 9.

    3) No, you'll probably start your Bronze Passport by July.

  2. This is very do-able if you really want it.

If you don't already have your own boots, then now would be a good time to get some.

It's really great to set targets, but be aware that people learn at different paces, and it depends on how much time you can afford to give up for the ice.

Skaters always build on earlier moves, so you'll need to still practice all the stuff you've learnt from 1-5 to consolidate. And as you learn more, you'll need to consolidate that learning more, which will lengthen the practice time you need. If you've got this far, you probably already know that, and the value of regular practice.

Just one move could hold you up. Try and work on your manoeuvres you find difficult at the moment and always ask your coach (or friendlier skaters further on) loads of questions to improve.

Later grades can take up more rink space, and routines of sufficient difficulty take time to learn.

If you're in group classes, you may want private ones once you've reached about level 6/7.

You might get to bronze passport before Christmas if you went twice a week, have a good coach and aren't held up by a tricky move.
