Okay, I am currently 'attempting to learn' a one foot spin (and its hard!)

Do you think a skate spinner would help me very much or not?

Thanks

  1. My daughter's coach reccommended one for her as an Alpha skater.  It helped with two foot spins and one foot spins.  I have even used it for some core strengthening.  It has been very useful.

  2. wow 1 foot spin, i learned that wen i was 9 and now i am 12 okay listen if you believe you can do it , you will be able to do it and don't be afraid to ask for help remember if you fall no big deal try again. good luck.

  3. All of the coaches I have worked with suggest staying away from skate spinners. I've tried to use them before and they are very hard to use, and don't really relate to spinning on ice much at all.  If you'd like to attempt using one go ahead and buy an inexpensive one to see if they help you at all, but really I'd suggest not getting one just because they are expensive and don't seem to help much with actually spinning on the ice.

  4. I have kind of mixed feelings about spinners.  I used to have the plastic kind, like this...

And I got the gold one for Christmas....

I actually think the plastic one worked better.  The downside to it is there are very few places you can use it.  You can't use it on hardwood floors, cement, tile or basiclly any other kind of floor you have at home!  :)  The only place I could use it without damaging the floor or wearing down the plastic "rocker" on the spinner was the rubber floor at the rink.  But it is a little helpful.  I think the best place to work on spins is on ice, but the plastic spinner is kind of fun.  I saw a video on YouTube of people really doing some awesome spins on one, but I was lucky to get maybe 3 revolutions in a spin.....before just falling over or running into something.  haha  I thought it was more entertaining than a good training tool.  :)

The metal one......I'll probably break my neck with!!!  While you can use it in more places because it has rubber "feet" and the spinner itself doesn't move or really come in contact wtih the floor, if your spin isn't perfect, it'll send you flying.  The metal spinner "spins" VERY fast.  I feel like I have less control over my spins on this spinner because it's going faster than I am!  Unlike the plastic one, this is flat and does not simulate the rocker of your blade.  My stepdaughters have fun doing "butt spins" on it, but it's really hard to do more than one revolution.  I'm not a perfect spinner, but I don't really find this helpful....so between "butt spins," it collects dust in the basement.

How are you going into your one-foot spin?  Are you using a pivot entrance or back inside edge?  E-mail me...maybe I can help you out with that.  :)
