  1. The fact that you went down a green or blue without falling says nothing about your skill or technique

are you parallel or snow plowing

    are you in complete control

The true black and double black add a few elements that you may or may not be ready for

Moguls, steep and narrow trails all with obstacles like rocks or ice in the middle of the run that require quick thinking,

my advice is to practice moguls first on blue runs, if you can ski moguls at higher speeds on blues then you are ready to move on to blacks

  2. Before you get in beyond your ability, be sure your skills can perform for you.  Do you balance on the  big toe edge of your downhill ski at all times?

Are your turns steered/skidded or carved?  Can you pressure the edge into the snow/ hard pack at any time or do you loose your edge at higher speeds?

Be honest with your self and stay on the lower slopes until you can do all of these things all of the time.

  3. Being English i ski in Alps which goes from green to Black, black being same as double black diamond, and if you feel confident enough go for it...

Also i took my son on his first day to the top of the Swiss Wall and took him down all be it holding him some of the way, got to the bottom and told him "now you can get down anything". He has never looked back as confidence was sky high!!! he is 8.  So go for it!!!

  4. You should always push yourself and go on harder slopes because that's the only way you are going to improve your skiing. Always remember to go with someone so if you do get into trouble then you've got someone to help you. I was unfortunate once to get seperated form my friend and my skis came off on a really steep slope. It's much harder then you think getting them back on on your own!
