1) skimboarding is EXTREMELY fun!!!! i love it.

2) the best brands are all about personal preference, but on the east coast, zaps are popular while victorias are popular on the west coast. there are also other good brands like exile and slotstik. it's all about preference. i personally use a zap and i love it.

3) if you are into sandskimming, a wood board is all right, but fiberglass is definitely better. as you progress into wave riding, do not use a woodie. stick to fiberglass and as you get better, carbon fiber and epoxy resin are top of the line.

4) try to avoid cheap, crappy, wood boards you'd find on a boardwalk or something.

5) the worst injury i've personally had is when i dropped my board on my foot and i couldn't walk for two days or wear shoes for about 3 days. but i'm sure you can break an arm or something if you aren't careful.
