  1. I prefer a slant load trailer better than a stock, but they both serve the same purpose. I also like a 2 horse straight load trailer if Im going on a small trip around about 30-45 min away, just because its alot easier to load and unload the horses.

I seen a really neat horse trailer the other day while I was on vacation it was a center load, this was the first time I seen one in person. I have looked at them online but never seen one till the other day.

    Hope this helps you out

  2. Slant for horses, stock for cattle, pigs, sheep, etc.

Slant is great for horses either way. Its easy to get them out, and are sometimes less weight than a stock.

  3. when they can pull in straight you can get more horses in a smaller trailer.  Thus more efficient use of space.

However a slant load gives the horse more stability especially around curves and such.  This is because the horse isn't being swayed directly sideways by its weight shifts.  It is being pushed slightly forward or backwards when you either change speeds or go around a corner.

One more advantage of a slant.  The front space makes a great tack room.

One more thing, I really like goosenecks.  They pull easier so even though they are a little heavier the gas mileage is about the same or sometimes a little better if you stick to the lighter ones.

  4. Hello,

    Well we have had both...

We had a SMALL really old stock trailer, it had on divider to make 2 small box stalls...  THIS trailer was TOO narrow and we sold it.  MY big horse use to get stuck.  (BP)

We now have a Trails West 3 horse BP it has nice padded dividers you it is nice, we use that for short hauls.

We also have a 4 Star 4 horse with dividers and stud stall, it is really nice, has hay mangers built in.  We use that for long hauls...(GN)

Now, we have a friend that hauls all the time in a stock trailer with no dividers only one sepration in the middle...  He is a horse trader and didn't care if the horses got into it, like we do when we haul our performance horses around.

NOW, our last hauler we hired to haul a mare from east to west coast, had a stock trailer with 3 partitions, it made 3;  8 X 10 box stalls, each horse had its own, with water and hay and they were free in them.  They had room to reposition and lay down.  HE said there is a HUGE difference in long hauls and recovery time, the horses he hauls like this aren't tired and are well rested.  He thinks it is because they can reposition them selves and walk around some during transport.

SOOOOO many trailer choices!  JUST make certain you get one tall enough and wide enough!

  5. My family definetly prefers slant load trailers.  I'm not quite sure why, but my mom's done research and thought they were better.  We've never had any problems with them.
