Sleep timer on windows?

i want to listen to my music on the laptop. Is there a way to make the computer turn off after ex: 30 minutes?

Yes, use the Power Management utility for your computer. From the Control Panel, go to Power Management. Create a new profile with instructions to shut down the computer (or put it into Hibernate or Sleep Mode, whichever you want) after 30 minutes with no activity. (In this scheme, to keep the computer from shutting down if you want it to stay on, just jiggle the mouse or something.) Then save the scheme with a name like "music listening". You can select this scheme whenever you want to listen to music and not leave the computer running for too long. Power Management won't always be shown in your Notification (Tray) Area, but you can put it on the Quick Launch area of your Taskbar.

You can make it go into Standby mode by right clicking the desktop, go to screen saver, the Power tab, and selecting your options.

There is nothing built in, but you can use the shutdown command line utility that is already build in on XP/Vista.  You can either call the command in a scheduled tast or you can run the command with the wait option, but that is only up to 600 seconds.

Example:  From a command prompt "shutdown.exe /t 600" would shut down the computer after 10 minutes.

Usage: shutdown [/i | /l | /s | /r | /g | /a | /p | /h | /e] [/f]

    [/m \\computer][/t x*x][/d [p|u:]xx:yy [/c "comment"]]

    No args    Display help. This is the same as typing /?.

    /?         Display help. This is the same as not typing any options.

    /i         Display the graphical user interface (GUI).

               This must be the first option.

    /l         Log off. This cannot be used with /m or /d options.

    /s         Shutdown the computer.

    /r         Shutdown and restart the computer.

    /g         Shutdown and restart the computer. After the system is

               rebooted, restart any registered applications.

    /a         Abort a system shutdown.

               This can only be used during the time-out period.

    /p         Turn off the local computer with no time-out or warning.

               Can be used with /d and /f options.

    /h         Hibernate the local computer.

               Can be used with the /f option.

    /e         Document the reason for an unexpected shutdown of a computer.

    /m \\computer Specify the target computer.

    /t x*x     Set the time-out period before shutdown to x*x seconds.

               The valid range is 0-600, with a default of 30.

               Using /t x*x implies the /f option.

    /c "comment" Comment on the reason for the restart or shutdown.

               Maximum of 512 characters allowed.

    /f         Force running applications to close without forewarning users.

               /f is automatically set when used in conjunction with /t x*x.

    /d [p|u:]xx:yy  Provide the reason for the restart or shutdown.

               p indicates that the restart or shutdown is planned.

               u indicates that the reason is user defined.

                 if neither p nor u is specified the restart or shutdown is unpl

anned.

               xx is the major reason number (positive integer less than 256).

               yy is the minor reason number (positive integer less than 65536).
