  1. When I traveled...

The Doctor gave me Klonopin (Clonazepam) it is a Benzodiazepine... usually used for Panic & Anxiety...

I took 1mg and it knocked me out....

    He only prescribed two...

    But people can get addicted...

    so don't take them daily...

Edit: He recommended me not to take them everyday... just for the flight.

  2. Melatonin....it's a homeopathic med that works well. Your body already makes it. It plays a role in your bodies circadian cycle....or sleep cycle. Increasing this will only increase your bodies need to sleep.

  3. There are some over the counter sleeping pills such as Unisom and Sominex , but they are actually antihistamines and there is very little evidence that they work.

The prescription drugs Lunesta, Ambien, and Sonata may be helpful in combating jet lag and letting you sleep. They have a very low risk of dependency if the only time you take them on long flights. Ambien can produce amnesia for the first hours after a dose and sleep walking in a small number of people.

I do a lot of international and long distance travel , and occasionally take half an Ambien for a long flight. I have never had problems with side effects, but that is just me.

  4. I would not advise sleeping pills. You could get some sleep by getting your eyes tired reading a book. Or listening to soft music.

Never try anything that could lead to drug dependency.

  5. Things like Tylenol PM have diphenhydramine in them which is found in Benadryl.  You could try taking Benadryl one night before you plane ride to see if it does the trick.  I know if I take only 1 Benadryl I am out for a good two hours.

  6. There aren't any sleeping pills that are over the counter.
