Question:

Small red bug on dog?

I was petting my dog and noticed a small red bug on her fur. It wasn't round. Kind of long. And it jumped away before i could kill it.It was on the outside, not near her skin. She is on flea medication (frontline) and i just gave her a bath yesterday, and i use a bit of flea/tick shampoo along with her regular shampoo. What could this bug have been? I checked her, and our cat and there aren't any more to be seen.

  1. Sounds like a flea to me.

Frontline works by putting a very small amount of pesticide into your pet's bloodstream.  The flea has to bite your dog in order to ingest the pesticide and then die.  If you see a live flea on your dog it just means it has not fed yet.

There is nothing that will keep a live healthy flea from getting on your dog.  Not flea shampoo, not flea dip, not flea powder and not a spot on treatment like Frontline.  The flea must come into direct contact with the pesticide for it to get a dose and die.

The best defense against fleas is Frontline and lots of vacuuming!  (Fleas don't live on your pet, they live in your carpets!)

  2. are you from a warm moist place??

if so then its just any bug that rested on her back it cant do any harm

if your from a cold dry place then it may be a bad sign but the way you said it looked like it sounds like it cant do any thing...the only things you should be looking out for are white dots that jump...reddish small ovals...and reddish rounded square wich is a tick...
