Snakes have Mites!!Help!?

I recently discovered my baby burmese has mites/ticks but my Ball Pythons don't. Currently they are in their enclosures with no bedding, just their hid/branches/water bowl. I've sprayed the whole cages and snakes with Mite Off but I haven't seen any improvement. I want to get something that can kill that mite/ticks/eggs...everything fast so my lil guys can have their bedding back. I've heard Prevent-A-Mite is the best but is there anything else I can use? BTW is PAM harmful to people or other pets? I think Arizona Reptile Center has PAM so imma go get that tomorrow. Does anyone have any advice or suggestions? Thanks

  1. Mites do spread quickly- you will need to treat ALL of your snakes. Here is what I have done successfully:

-Clean the cages, and replace the substrate with newspaper. Remove all cage furnishings, except for the water bowl (which should be ceramic, to avoid spills)

-Soak the snakes, to remove any visible mites

-Sprinkle a small amount of Seven dust under the newspaper in each cage. This product is available at most garden stores.

Although mites can lay eggs anywhere in the room, they must return to the host (snakes) to feed. The Seven dust kills them at that point. Clean the enclosures every few days, replacing the Seven at that time. You should be mite free in a few weeks.

  2. Reptile mites are very hard to get rid of, because those little buggers reproduce so fast.   First you need to quarantine the snake, not just so he is away from other pets, but so that you snake itself is not exposed to more garbage.  Here is a couple things you can do....Place the snake in a well-ventilated container and put pyrethrin-based flea powder on the snake.  and let him stay in there a while.

Also there are actual mite remedies you can buy at PET stores.   Also it looks like you have your ball python and Burmese python in the same tank?????? If so I highly advise against that.  The Burmese is gonna out grow your ball by 4-5 times.    Well good luck with the mites
