Snowboarding and MP3's?

Question

I need a mp3 that holds at least 1000 songs and can take a beating and keep on ticking im going to use it mainly for snowboarding so can you guys give me some different products and any tips on how to keep your device safe while snowboarding would be majorly helpful... Thanks :)

You might be able to dig out an old iPod mini in the 6GB format.  It has a mad solid construction to it since the entire thing is pretty much metal.  However, nowadays I've switched over to a 80GB Zune, and I love it.  I just make a playlist and go.  And the benefit over the iPod that the Zune has is that you can click it.  The iPod's scroll wheel tends to not be as responsive in the cold, and the new 80GB Zune has both click and scroll.

80GB Zune runs at about $250.

The Zune also seems pretty solid so far.  My last gen. iPod classic, 30GB's back got dented by simply dropping it on something.

Overall, I say Zune.  I love mine, and it has what I need, with the exceptions of some small issues.  But hey, it's only in it's second generation compared to the iPod's like sixth.

i absolutely love my Creative Zen M 30gig... holds about 10-15000 songs. It also (unlike the ipod) will play regular *** mp3's as well as everything else you can think of.

I take my 80gig iPod classic out with me.  I wear a fleece jacket and a North Face jacket over that.  They both have pockets along the zipper over my chest and I keep it inside the fleece jacket in that pocket and it's been fine so far since when I fall I don't land on it.

You could pick up a flash based player pretty cheap and just buy a big SD card to throw in there.  I'd probably get a refurbished iPod nano (the link is at the bottom left of the Apples store site) since they're cheap and small and light.  They can take a bit of a beating as long as you're not landing directly on it.
