So about the ohms?

so if i have 1 10" alpine type x. the ratings are 1000 W rms and 3000 W max power.

so if i bought the 10 inch type x with 2 ohms how many ohms should my amp have?

and if i have the 10 inch type x with 4 ohms how many ohms should my amp have?

and which one is better?

  1. ohms is the load the speaker puts on the amps. more ohms. less load. less ohms. more load. more load pulls more power out of the amp.

    but it's not just the actual power in watts the amp is rated at, it's  more like torque in a tow vehicle instead of HP. a Ferrari has way more power than a pickup truck, but can't deliver it into a heavy load. it's like a high power amp that can't handle a 2 ohm load and needs an 8 amp load.

    so, imagine the amp is a car  towing a heavy trailer  representing the speakers. more ohms, less load; easy to pull, but you can't put that much power in. less ohms, more load, the amp can really put some power into pulling it; IF THE AMP HAS THE MUSCLE TO DELIVER IT.

    so, the 2 ohm subwoofer will deliver more power from the amp if the amp has the muscle to pull that heavy a load, but if it doesn't it'll basically just stall.

    you'll have to do some investigating  to find out if  the  amp can handle that load or not. again, that's not dependent on the power rating in watts; it's how much current it can deliver.


  2. when it comes to ohms and amps- an amp is rated for the impedance (ohms) that it is stable at (it cannot be changed)

    the lower the final impedance of the subs the easier (cheaper) it is to power- those subs are DVC (dual voice coils) so they can be wired in different ways to get different final impedance's

    the lower the final impedance the lower the sound quality, and amps that are stable at 1ohm (and are still CEA-compliant) are harder to find, and cost more.  but the higher the final impedance the better the sub will sound but it will cost more to power

    i would go with the 4ohm version because i like to always go with 2ohms at the amp (all mono class d amps are stable at 2ohms) because it does not cost as much to power as 4ohm setups, easier to find an amp, and you still get better sound quailty than at 1 or .5ohms)

  3. You are not understanding what OHM is.

    OHM is the rating for the speakers.  Amplifiers are not rated in OHM.  But amplifiers are RECOMMENDED with certain OHM rated speakers.  So if the amp rated at 1000 W and recommended with 2 ohm speakers, that's what you get (or higher or both).
