To what extent can a high official be punished by the Senate?

  1. They can be removed.

    The House of Representatives can impeach them, which many people think means that they are removed from their jobs. Not true. Getting impeached means that you are basically called out. Then there is a trial in which the Senate stands as the jury.

    So if the House believes someone has does something wrong, they impeach and the Senate has the ability to remove them. (The House impeaches, the Senate removes.)

    *Fact- Bill Clinton was impeached but never removed.
