I have a B.A. in Sociology and I currently work doing IT for an accounting firm.  There are options out there though.  

You can go to school for another 4 years and become and doctor, work at a college and teach it as well as conduct research of your own.

You can hop onto one of the big polling companies like Gallup and conduct surveys

My dream was to work for a company or government imparting how sociology affected those institutions.  The truth is that nobody is really interested in that.  It's all about the bottom line, and since Sociology is not really all that respected of a science, it's unlikely that anything except a very progressive company would be interested in anything like that.

Don't let this discourage you from majoring in it though.  I would venture a guess that most people that have Bachelor of Arts degrees do not actually end up doing what they had intended on doing.  It is a rewarding major in that it teaches you about life, and gives you perspective that few other majors can offer.
