Question:

Soft tissue injuries (from Aikido)?

On separate occasions I've

had my hand slammed into my knee. (Ikkyo).

took a front fall on my elbow which did something to my rotor cuff (shoulder) (Ikkyo omote)

got my fingers caught in a dogi and bent back pretty good.

With all of these they're slow to recover. I can still feel the injury in my hand (during a 3kyo grip) 7 months later.

So... How long do injuries take to completely get better? My shoulder worries me the most. I used to enjoy swimming butterfly but I can't anymore. :(

  1. Each person's recovery times vary depending on their physiques and current health condition , but usually a good gauge is to just listen to your body , it will tell you how it feels and if it needs more rest in a particular area.  So if you feel that a certain part of your body is still hurting a lot or is way too sore , then you certainly need to rest that area more in order for it to recover and so you don't cause any permanent damage.  It's also important that you consider taking sport supplements since you are very active in a art that is physically demanding and injuries are prone to occure.  I recommend you take some herbal products that help with joint connective tissue , muscle repair and energy and stamina production , you can take them in capsule form before and after each training session. You can find them here : http://204269.amazonherb.net  , there click on concentrated nutrition and look for the Energy and Performance Pack and read up.  I hope this helps.

  2. I dislocated my shoulder from san shou and got many injured from long hours of kung fu training. Buy the book "7 minute rotator cuff solution" . its an awesome book for bad shoulders. Also get on a good joint supplement. I use "nutra mend" from myvitamin.com and "animal flex" from bodybuilding.com  and also drink unflavored natural "gelatin". Gelatin is made from conective tissues and collagen, you need these to rebuild tissues.
