i'm almost 15 and i will be a freshman this year. i play softball. softball tryouts are in february, i want to get a head start on training. i want to know some great ways to help me tone my arms, legs, and abs. i also want to work on my breathing, like when we run poles or laps, i always get side stiches because i dont breath right when i run. do you know anything to help me with that? i also want to work on my speed, even though i was the fastest person on my middle school team. i play first base so any tips for that position would be great. and i wold like to work on my arm. thanks!

  1. I'm gonna be a senior this year and I'm a carsity catcher.

-Speed is deffinately important even though softball's not always about running. It's great to be quick on balls especially if you're playing first base. To work on quick reaction time reaction balls work woonders. get a friend to bounce one near your feet and react to where the ball goes. We also do relay throwing which is great because it makes you react to plays. That's basically when you have three people who stand in a line and you have to throw the ball to all three people in the line and back to the first thrower again. The slowest group of girls usually has to run a lap or do sprints or something.

If you wanna work on speed for base running I suggest stairs. If your house has a staircase you could even do it inside. running back and forth up and down really helps with agility. I like to practice on my school's bleachers because of all the steps.

-Somebody above suggested weight balls or medicine balls. They're awesome for working on both upper body strength and abs. If you have a big medicine ball you can lay down, hold it above your head, and do sit ups while holding it. Your gonna feel it after, but it's a good burn  =)

they also sell small medicine balls about the size of softballs.

Great for upper body strength and it will also improve your throwing speed as well as batting.

-If you already checked with a doctor and the side pains are not some kind of medical problem, the only solution is to work it away. It's gonna hurt at first, but the more you run with the pain, the less you'll feel it later.

-Most importantly dont over work yourself! Have fun!

    Good luck  =)

  2. agility is key

    weighted ball works wonders

ladder (rope on ground just like a ladder) improves quickness by running through as fast a possible with one foot, then both, then bunny hope, zig zag so on

jump roping!! cardio and quickness go for 2 minutes for warm up then time your self for how many in 30 seconds

push ups as much as u may hate them

    sprints back forth touch ground

    hoped this helped =]
