  1. Wait until the scrum is steady and your team isn't getting pushed around. I wouldn't tap it on the hooker's hand, just because it can be felt throughout the scrum and by the other team. My team has the hooker give a signal with her hand then the ball comes in. Don't put the ball in before the sir says engage.

  2. When the referee says engage, wait and see if the scrum is steady, if your scrum is going backwards, point it out to the ref and they'll restart it. If the scrum is steady or your scrum is going slightly forward, put it in.

I'm a hooker and it always helps if just before you put it in, tap the ball on the hookers arm as he knows when it's coming in, allowing him to strike for it better.

  3. What kind of scrumhalf doesn't know the answer to that question.

  4. Yep, the guy above is right.  It's down to you as a scrum half to make the decision when the scrum is steady enough to put the ball in.  The ref should reset the scrum if the opposition get the shove on too early, i.e. before the ball is put in.

  5. after he says engage, wait for a nice opening, then throw it in.
