  1. Be aware that every single body gets nervous, whether they look like it or not, whether they admit it or not.  Also, nobody can tell how bad your panic is inside, they can't feel the depth of your tension and fear.  Knowing this lets you pretend, or ACT like you're fine.  People are paid large sums to act, and and lookey, here's your chance to practice their art.

Two great suggestions are:  1)Know your material thoroghly, really understand it and what it is you'd like to inform/convince your listeners of.  The more you're sure of your information, the easier it'll be to present it in a calm, confidant manner.  2)Take deep, slow breaths before presenting yourself to your audience, and nice full breaths as you speak, this will help you pace your words.

Oh, I almost forgot, VISUALIZE yourself (in advance, and start now) giving the speech in a successful manner.  Put the idea into your subconscious that it'll be the perfect delivery, your subconscious will work to make that image come true.  Repeat it many times before the talk, always using positive images and affirmations ("this talk is flowing as easy as talking to my friends"  "I'm calm and friendly in delivering my speech"   "the audience is waiting to hear what I have to say").

Very best luck to you, it'll be over quick . . .

  2. First, organize your speech by typing it on the computer. If you need to present an oral speech, write down key points on note cards. You will have an easier transition to the next idea you will discuss. Practice giving your speech in front of one and/more people you feel most comfortable around. They can give you ideas on how to present your speech/provide constructive criticism. Just relax, inhale deep-cleansing breaths, and think of calm and positive people/songs/etc.

  3. I have the same fear- and I've had to speak four times this year in front of large audiences. What helps me is finding lots of visuals for your presentation to get the eyes off me and on to picture or information boards. It also helps if you are afriad you might forget something. People wouild rather look at visuals anyways than a nervous person. Good Luck!

P.P. try to keep you speech casual like a conversation and always look at a smiling face in the audience.

  4. Practice in front of a mirror and also in front of friends!@

  5. Effective public speaking can be developed by joining a club such Rostrum, Toastmasters International, Association of Speakers Clubs (ASC) or International Training in Communication (ISC) in which members are assigned exercises to improve their speaking skills. Members learn by observation and practice, and hone their skills by listening to constructive suggestions followed by new public speaking exercises. These include:

    Oratory

    The use of gestures

    Control of the voice

    Choice of vocabulary

    Speaking notes

    Using humour

Developing a relationship with the audience

International Federation of Professional Speakers affilates (often called National Speakers Association) offer a similar service for those whose occupation is a professional speaker.

Commercial training services such as Speaking Circles International are also available.
