How long can you keep somebody in jail after they've been charged by the police but before they have been sentenced by the judge/jury? ie how long can someone wait for a trial? Thanks

  1. there is no statute of limitations for due process. even though a defendant is entitled to a speedy trial, lawyers will usually delay it. i have seen instances where in a capital offense, it took 10 years to go to trial.

  2. as long as the person has been charged, the judge can deny bail and essentially keep someone in prison indefinitely.  Of course, the persons lawyers should be doing everything under the law to get a release.

  3. As long as possible, unless bail has been granted.
