Question:

Something wrong with my nails?

A couple weeks ago my one of my thumb nails had a horizontal white line in the middle of it,

Just all of a sudden.

I thought it was like White Out or something [I'd been using White Out] So I tried to pick it off, but then from the line and under the nail started peeling off making half of my thumb nail really thin...

The top half was still normal.

So now the top is still thick, and my nail has grown making the thin part the majority of my nail...

My sister also has this problem on 3 of her nails, and after her nails growing, the thick part slid off and just the new thin nail was left...

My question is, what is this and why is it caused?

We're going to the doctor next week, but I'd still like to know sooner.

[Sorry for so much writing, I wasn't sure if anyone would understand with minimum details.]
