Question:

Sony DSC-W70 memory stick problem?

I have used my camera for about a year and a half now. It has a 500 MB memory stick, and everything has worked well until recently.

The memory stick seems to have decreased in size.

The icon in the display shows only about one-third full even when there are no photos in the camera, and it fills up really fast now.

Does anyone know what to do about this? Do memory sticks wear out with age?

  1. Yes, you really should format your memory stick (in the camera's Menu) regularly.

But, make sure you ONLY format it AFTER you have transferred all images to your computer first. Because formatting will delete everything from the memory stick/card.

So, in general...format your memory stick everytime you need to delete all the images from it...

  2. When was the last time you formatted the card?  You need to do this after each use to keep it refreshed and prevent file corruption.

Memory cards are so inexpensive now, buying a 2GB card might be a good addition to your camera bag
