Sony DVD Recorder difficulties?

I had bought a new sony DVD recorder model (rdr-hxd890/hxd990) As i hooked it up, there was no cover page(A DVDs name page with graphics) it was simply just a black screen? it worked normally but it was a black screen when turn it on. i try all tsettingsngs and search the instructions but still no luck?

put your tv on the right channel

which channel depends on whay connection u use
