Sony handycam problems..?

Question

i have a sony handycam dcr-dvd403.. i have no problem recording but i can not figure out how to get my video's on ym computer.. i have tried just insering my disk into my hardrive (NOPE).. and the USB cable (NOPE).. i would love to get my video's on my PC but am running into brick walls every turn i make.. please.. does anyone ither have the software or a solution for me!! Thanks..

Generally speaking, DVD based camcorders were not meant to have their video transfered to a computer. The video quality is not very good - but since we are here...

The VOB files on the DVD cannot be used directly for editing - you need to convert them first.

If your computer does not have a DVD drive, then using the DVD disc from the camcorder won't work. You would need to use the AV cable you normally use to connect the camcorder directly to a TV - but instead of plugging into the TV, you will plug into an "analog/digital bridge"

If your computer has only USB:

If your computer does have a DVD drive, then you need to rip the DVD using something like HandBrake.

Once it is in a format that your video editor can use (Windows - MovieMaker; Apple - iMovie), then you can import the video you ripped from the DVD.

Note: Never put a miniDVD disc in a slot loading drive. You will scratch the disc, lose the video and break the optical drive. Using the DVD ripper is for drawer loading DVD optical drives only.
