Sound hardware corrupted help???

My parent and I share a computer and when I came back over the weekend from my other parent's house there was no sound

Normally when the PC has no sound I unplug it then plug it back in and it is fine but not this time help!!!!!

  2. First thing is to check whether the sound device is enabled. Go to Start / Settings /Control Panel and then Sound and Audio Devices. Check whether anything is disabled. Reenable it if necessry and then check "Use only default devices." If it doesn't work right away, try a reboot at this point.

    Then try device manager if it isn't fixed yet. Right click My Computer and select Manage. Under "System Tools" you'll find Device Manager. See if there are any question marks on any devices. If so, delete them and click Actions / Scan for hardware changes. This should reinstall your sound drivers if they're gone or corrupt.

    You may need the restore CD that came with your PC, or your sound card's CD. Or you can try going to Windows Update and look for a sound driver update under "Hardware Updates."
