Sour milk in my car!!?

Question

I left a pint of milk under the seat of my car...Forgot about it..it went sour and some dripped for about 3 days..I had the the carpets cleaned and I cleaned it myself ..I can't get rid of smell..I'm leaving door open any chance I get ..carpets wont come and are still a little wet I've washed it for the last 2 days..Anyone got any tips to get rid of smell...many thanks

fill the ashtrays with pot puree, even the glove box, and leave the rest of the bag in a lidless box in the boot, don't waste your time with car airfreshners, now that you have got rid of as much as you can, all you can do is mask the smell until it fades with shake n vac and fabreeze sort of products on the spot itself

The odor of spoiled milk is traditionally very difficult to remove. Fortunately, there are some relatively simple (and inexpensive) solutions. The sooner you clean the smelly spot, the greater your chances of restoring a fresh scent to your house-on-wheels.

Things You’ll Need:

Towel

Water

White Vinegar

Baking Soda

enzyme odor remover

vacuum cleaner

fan or hair dryer

Blot up any remaining liquid with a towel.

Step2

Pour baking soda over the area where the milk was spilled.

Step3

Sprinkle cold water on top of the baking soda.

Step4

Let stand overnight.

Step5

Vacuum to remove baking soda.

Step6

If the smell remains, try treating the area with white vinegar.

Let sit for 15 minutes, then blot excess vinegar with paper towels.

Step7

If vinegar fails to beat the stink, tackle it with an enzyme odor remover. These products use biological organisms that consume odors and can be found at stores that specialize in cleaning products.

Step8

Use a commercial leather cleaner and odor eliminator on leather upholstery. Your dealer may carry these products.

Step9

Allow the area to dry completely: residual moisture can cause mildew. Use a hair dryer or fan if necessary, being careful not to scorch carpet fibers with a hair dryer.

Tips :

If the smell is limited to a floor mat, it might be easier to replace the mat with a new one.



Consider applying a product such as Scotchgard to cloth upholstery and carpets to repel stains. Use Scotchgard Leather Protector for leather upholstery.



If a substantial amount of milk has spilled and gone sour, or if the milk has soaked deeply into the seat or carpet, you may need to seek professional help from an auto detailer.

sprinkle baking soda on the carpet and let it absorbe the smells and such, and then vac it out again...i hope it works, i had a vomit smell in my van for a month from my son..YUMMY!  : o P

This happened in my grandma's car as well, i know how you feel, the smell. *shudders*

we used lots of air freshener and cleaned the carpet at every chance we got.

Febreeze might help.  I bet the problem is not so much with the carpets now that they were cleaned, but your seats have probably absorbed the odor.  Baking soda might help also, but first I would completely Febreeze your car, then go and do it again.

I had the same problem.

I filled the affected part of the floor pan with water containing a strong dose of non-bleach disinfectant to a depth of about an inch(2 to 3cm) and left it for half an hour.

I removed it with a wet/dry vacuum cleaner, mopping up the remaining dampness with paper towels.

I left it do dry out for a day, with the windows open - so a garage would be useful.

Don't worry about exact disinfectant dosage, just use your common sense; a pine scented brand will smell a bit better, too. Don't obsess about perfect mopping; if it's still a bit damp after this, again don't worry; just drive it with the windows open as much as possible until it is dry.

This happened to me TWICE, and the treatment worked both times.
