I bet they looked at global temperature averages since 2001.  Technically, that's when the 21st century started.  It's a way of implying that there has been a long term flat temperature trend by hoping people will confuse the 20th and 21st centuries.  

There have been several aruments about whether there has been a trend or not with 21st century data.
