Question:

Speaker leads?

I have a set of speakers but they are they are not jack sockets, they are just leads which must be clipped into the back of the stereo. Is there such a thing as a device to convert these leads into jack leads?

  1. Not sure I understand the question. Are you talking about the speaker end of the wire or the amp/receiver end?

If the receiver end, most mid to high end receivers/amps have terminals that will work for wires, pins, lugs or banana plugs. The latter make for greater convenience but aren't necessary. If you want to add them to the wires from the speaker you can easily enough ... but I suggest pins (the wire solders or clamps with a s***w (depending on design) into the pin connector and a plastic cover goes over the connection, The pin end will then fit in a spring clip on the back of an amp or under the srew down binding post ... just be sure one wire doesn't touch another.

The only reason I can think of to add plugs to the amp/receiver end is because your amp/receiver has some type of proprietary / jack output. If so and you have to use a jack to connect go to a good electronics shop (where they sell parts) and find what you need (take a picture of the socket if necessary).

If you are talking about the speaker end only very inexpensive speakers run wires directly into the speaker box. However, you can buy speaker terminal plates which would convert your speakers to ones with spring or cinch post terminals, but what would the point be? It would risk ruining the speakers by sawing a hole in them and what do you gain? I think it would be better to get good speakers and not waste the money.

Maybe I misunderstood your question ..  but I hope something here helps.

If you edit to add more info maybe I can provide more.

  2. If your speakers have leads sticking out, they probably aren't very good speakers to start with. I suppose you could make a hole where the cable comes out, buy a plate with the jacks on, solder the leads to the back and s***w the plate on. But I don't think you'd be getting much better quality, except perhaps from using a lower gauge cable. To see if this is worth it, first cut the leads a few inches from the speakers and twist your other cable onto that. But you probably have feet and feet of small cable inside so it won't make a difference - unless you need to go a long distance like 20 feet.

  3. I suspect that you are trying to hook up a speaker to a signal level output.

Provide specific model numbers and you can be helped otherwise it is just a guessing game.
