I have a relatively new digital rebel xti and i have been seeing specs of black on pictures shot of skylines clouds or other infinitely far scenes. I have cleaned the outside of the lens and it did not do anything. also when i take the lens off and look though it i can focus on one black dot inside the lens. what is causing this? how much will it cost to fix? here is a sample of what i see.

  1. You may have some dust inside the lens.  But usually, that won't give you the well-defined dark spots like we see in your flickr picture.

Most likely, you have dust on the sensor of the XTi camera body.  That can be cleaned at an authorized service center for around $60 (call first), or you can do it yourself.

There are many dust removal products for the new generation of digital SLRs.  Personally, I use a blower and patience, as I would never want to touch the delicate sensor of my camera.

When I first got a DSLR, I had dust speck problems all the time.  Now, I've learned some good habits and haven't had one "speck" of difficulty for years.

    1. Hold the camera body facing downward when changing lenses.

    2. Learn to switch lenses quickly.

    3. NEVER change lenses in dusty environments

Here are some cleaning suggestions I found on Youtube.
